Effective date: November 3, 2026
Plot Spot (“Plot Spot”, “we”, “us” or “our”) runs read.8billiontrees.com (the “Site”), a free website for reading stories chapter by chapter. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. Our Terms of Use also apply.
The short version
- You can read everything on the Site without giving us your name or email address.
- We have no reader accounts, take no payments, and do not offer comments.
- If you contact us or join our newsletter, we keep the details you send so we can reply or email you.
- We may use analytics tools, advertising partners and social media pixels. These can use cookies to measure visits and show ads.
- We do not sell your information for money.
Information you give us
Contact form. When you write to us, the form collects your name, email address, a subject line and your message. Your message is stored in the Site’s WordPress database and emailed to the people who run the Site.
Newsletter. If you sign up for email updates, we collect your email address and may ask for your first name. Our newsletter is run through MailerLite, which stores your details and sends our emails for us.
Please don’t include sensitive personal details, such as health or financial information, in anything you send us.
Information collected automatically
Server and hosting data. The Site runs on WordPress and is hosted by Hostinger. Like most websites, the server automatically logs basic details about each visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time.
Caching. We use LiteSpeed caching to make pages load faster. It stores ready-made copies of our pages and may set technical cookies the Site needs to work properly. It is not used to build a profile of you.
Analytics. We may use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, which may be managed through Google Tag Manager. These tools can record which chapters you open, the time spent on each page, the site or ad that sent you here, the type of device and browser you use, and a rough location inferred from your IP address.
Advertising. The Site may show ads from advertising partners. These partners may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure how ads perform, and in some cases show ads based on your activity on this and other websites.
Social media pixels. We may use pixels from social media companies, such as Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), to count how many people arrive at the Site from our ads and what they read. These companies may connect this information to your account with them under their own policies.
Email activity. MailerLite may record whether our emails are delivered, opened or clicked, which helps us understand what readers want more of.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. The Site and the partners described above may use cookies and similar tools, such as pixels and local storage, for the purposes in this policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings (see “Your choices” below).
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- run the Site, keep it fast, and fix problems;
- see which stories and chapters people read, so we can decide what to publish;
- show and measure ads that help keep the Site free;
- measure visits that come from our ads on social media;
- reply to your messages and handle your requests;
- send the newsletter to people who signed up for it; and
- protect the Site against spam, abuse and security threats, and meet our legal obligations.
How we share information
We share information only as described here:
- Service providers that help us run the Site, including Hostinger (hosting) and MailerLite (email). They may use your information only to provide their services to us.
- Analytics, advertising and social media partners, such as Google and Meta, as described above. What these companies collect is also governed by their own privacy policies.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may share information if the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith that doing so is needed to protect our rights, our readers or others.
- A change of ownership. If the Site is sold or transferred, reader information may pass to the new owner, who would need to honor this policy.
We do not sell personal information for money. Letting advertising or social media partners collect information through cookies may count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information under some state laws. You can limit this with the choices below.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove you through our contact page.
- Browser cookie controls. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, or warn you before one is stored. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.
- Interest-based ads. You can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info and the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) at optout.networkadvertising.org. On a phone or tablet, you can also use your device’s advertising settings to limit ad tracking or reset your advertising ID.
- Google and Meta settings. You can manage Google ad personalization at adssettings.google.com, and Meta ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account settings.
Opting out of interest-based ads does not stop ads from appearing. It means the ads you see are less likely to be based on your browsing.
Do Not Track. There is no single agreed standard for browser “Do Not Track” signals, and the Site does not currently respond to them.
Your state privacy rights
Depending on where you live in the United States, state law may give you rights over your personal information. These can include the right to:
- know what personal information we have about you and how we use it;
- get a copy of it;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, or its use for targeted advertising; and
- not be treated differently for using these rights.
To make a request, use our contact page and mention “Privacy Request” in your message. We may need to confirm your identity first, for example by checking the email address you write from. We will respond within the time required by the law that applies to you. If we deny your request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our response.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. For example, we keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe, and contact messages for as long as they’re useful for answering you. We may keep information longer when the law requires it or to resolve disputes. Our partners keep what they collect according to their own policies.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please tell us through our contact page and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and limited access to the Site’s administration tools and email accounts. No website or online service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of information sent to or stored on the Site.
Links to other sites
Stories, ads and emails may link to other websites. We don’t control those sites, and their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change as the Site grows. Any revision will appear on this page with a new effective date shown above. Continuing to use the Site after a change means the updated policy applies.
